French Bread French Toast

I love French Toast and when it’s made with French Bread...ooh la la I’m in French paradis!

The French call this pain perdu meaning lost bread, as they use day old bread because it soaks up the egg mixture better and doesn’t fall apart.

In New Orleans they also call it pain perdu, but they dip their day old French bread in an egg-based custard that sometimes has liquor.
Serves 6-8

Ingredients:

1 loaf of French bread
6 eggs
Pam nonstick spray
4 tablespoons vanilla extract
1/2 milk
Cinnamon
Nutmeg

Directions:

In a bowl combine the eggs, vanilla extract and milk. Mix well. Pour into a cake pan.

Cut your French bread into 2” slices. Drench the bread in the egg mixture, making sure you get both sides. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste.

In a large size skillet or an electric griddle spray the Pam. Once bread has soaked up egg mixture (but not fall apart) cook them 2-3 minutes on each side or until they look toasty. Serve with your favorite toppings like; butter, powdered sugar, syrup, yogurt, peanut butter, fruit.....Yum Yum!
